Bench surfaces
High pressure laminates
HPL is supplied in a large variety of colours and patterns. It is probably the most popular bench product offering a cost effective durable solution. With care a laminate top can last for approx 10 years. The exposed bench edges have a selection of profiles, and a selection of surface finishes are now available.
Granite and Engineered Stone
Granite can look stunning! Granite is available in a wide range of colours and patterns.
Engineered Stone is generally available in paler colours.
Granite and Engineered Stone needs to be templated after the kitchen cabinetry is installed, with a waiting period of about 15 working days for the installation of the bench.
Acrylic and polyester
This is a 100% man made product and is available in a variety of thicknesses. Some acrylic manufactured tops have a MDF substrate as the base for a thin veneer of Acrylic. This allows for any thickness, waterfall legs can look a solid 100mm! This product is seamless around corners and joins and is bacteria impervious.
Fine lines can be buffed out with a gritty surface cleanser, or polished out. These acrylic and polyester tops are also templated after cabinetry is installed, with a waiting period of about 15 working days.
Stainless steel
Stainless steel is strong and has an easy to clean hygienic surface. This product is useful in sink and cooking areas. It can be used with other complimentary bench materials which face living or dining areas, e.g. on an island.Any scratches can be rebuffed for a satin look or simply allow the small lines to blend together.
Timber
In some kitchens the natural warmth of a wooden top is the perfect solution for timeless appeal.
Solid timber tops are best recommended to be made in laminated strips, these support each other to stop warping. They come in several finishes, with natural oil or super hard clear synthetic resins, we have recommendations.
100% waterproof acid and alkaline and impact resistant, and repairable.
They can be supplied in any available timber, choose the harder varieties and consider plantation grown timber.
Cabinetry
MDF = Medium Density Fibre board - not to be confused with Chip Board, there is a big difference in wear and use. Living Kitchens use New Zealand manufactured MDF.
Cabinets
Cabinets are constructed with solid MDF 16mm embossed melamine board. Each unit is constructed using screws and dowels and has a 12mm rebated back. Living Kitchens does not use glues or staples in the construction of your kitchen.
Doors
Melamine Doors
Doors can be made from Melamine, with PVC non chip edging. Choose from woodgrain or solid colours as there are 100's of options! This is probably the most popular door option, offering cost effective and durable solutions.
Vinyl Thermowrap
Vinyl thermowrap is a scratch resistant product that is easy to clean and doesnt have the glue line of the PVC edging. These doors can be flat or choose a routed pattern.
Wooden Doors
Wooden Doors can be made from man made wood, veneered wood, or solid timber. All wooden doors need to be prefinised, usually oiled or clear lacquered.
Coloured lacquered doors
Choose what you require on quality, as each surface coating has a price to your requirements. Polyurethane or 2 Pot Lacquer, Powder Coated; then choose hardened finishing coats, 100% Gloss to 30% Satin finish, any hue shade or colour, the choice is extensive. Each door is hand sanded. Moisture Resistant (MR) MDF Board is the board of choice when is comes to lacquered doors.
Doors can be Aluminum edged, or have glass inserts. Different styles can be achieved from modern to classic styles, just by the different door choices avaliable to you.
Hardware
Living Kitchens use Blum drawer runners and hinges they come with a life time guarantee. All standard drawers come with soft close buffers, no more banging drawers. Our drawers have melamine sides, this gives you higher sides and no nasty corners where food gets trapped. Metal sided Blumotion drawers have self close soft drawer systems which are whisper quiet. We have hundreds of handles to choose from.
Kitchen accessories
Far too many to list, these items will enable the user to have items where you need them. There are several companies where we source products for you. Bad backs, age or arthritis? we can make life easier with easy access. Most clients will choose a double bin, consider detergent slide outs, difficult corner access pull out shelving and chrome baskets.
